This project was focused on the innovative material Karuun, made from tropical plant rattan. This material has three-dimensional features, like plastic. During the first week we conducted material-tests in different areas like pretreatment, mold-construction, bonding and deformation. This extensive research offered a comprehensive material knowledge, which laid the foundation for the second part of the semester, with a focus on conception. We were inspired by the original round shape of the rattan palm, and in the end we shaped the flat veneer back into a round shape. In the next step we incorporated several objects into the centre of the objects, thus reaching new experimental forms.
